This is most likely a problem with your internet, not your computer. If it times out, that means you lost connection from the server which is either the server being slow, or your internet being slow. If it doesn't happen on other servers, it would mean that it's the server you're trying to connect to and there is nothing you can do about that other than tell the server owner.
I have recently come back to MC after a few years of dormancy.
However, from my PC i can get about 2 minutes in then i suffer a "Connection Lost - Timed Out" screen.
I have run the crash-log through the MC Launcher, and it does not record as a crash. (i.e. there is no log of anything awry)
On my home network we have another PC (which suffers the same fate) and a mini-mac which runs smoothly, no issues there.
Have others had similar time-out issues? It is odd that it only happens from my PCs, and not my Mac.
As requested in the how to get help thread, here's the crash log:

Not sure how to add a spoiler box to hide the dxdiag in, when you reply, I'll add the dxdiag then.

Thank you pfgminecraft.
If it were simply an issue with my ISP, then i would see this issue on my Mac as well. but it is only impacting my PCs.
I did a speed test earlier and am getting a woeful 8.9 Mbps
ok, i just speed tested my Mac, and as expected the same speed - 8.9Mpbs ... (well they are both on the same modem)
Does MC use different ports etc on a windows build to a Mac build?

Curse Premiuminteresting... I have no idea why this happens. What's the upload speed
I have a weird problem where on one computer I get download speed of 40 and upload 20, but on the other I get download 51 and upload 12
