I recently bought Minecraft and, silly me, didn't think to check compatibility with my Windows 10 tech demo OS. Only reason I have the tech demo is because I currently cannot afford a complete OS [It took trade credit to get Minecraft] and my laptop was having issues with drivers, so installing the tech demo was the only way to fix it.
Can Minecraft run on the Win10 tech demo? I did some googling and someone said if Win 8.1 Java and drivers are used, but I don't wanna go downloading and installing things without being somewhat sure it'll work.
I use Windows 10. I currently have the 10049 build and Minecraft works just fine. Make sure to download the latest drivers so you can make sure it is compatible.
I have had no problems with Minecraft on any build of the tech preview. I just used the regular minecraft installer (which installs it's own java) But I also run a bukkit server on it with existing java downloads.
The problem with running the tech prewiew will not be java or windows itself, but GPU drivers.
If your GPU is not supported by its manufacturer in windows 10 then you will be stuck using windows drivers which do not support opengl, minecraft requires opengl drivers suppled by the GPU manufactures to be running to work.
Use windows 10 tech preview as its intended, to test, not as a primary OS

I got the .msi version when I first downloaded it, I'm gonna try the .exe next.

That might be it, and I wish I could but when I got my new laptop it came sans hard drive so when I loaded mine in, it didn't install the drivers right. I can't afford a whole new OS so I decided to try overriding my Win7 with the tech demo and now that's all I have till I can get Win8 or until the full version of 10 comes out cause apparently we get it for free if we've been testing.
Thing is, I can run other things right, Unity games and such. If it was an OpenGL issue, wouldn't I not be able to run anything like that?
It might lag a lot if it is in a VM though, but i'd try it anyway
I dunno which VM to try though, I downloaded virtualbox from Oracle and it didn't run like I expected, said no OS was found, and it knocked my main computer out of the net completely.

My Website
I only have 1041 .-. I'll update to 1049 and then check my drivers and see if that fixes it.

Would it help to know I'm running on an Intel laptop?
