As in the title, I'm playing vanilla 1.8.3 and have the newest Java (8 Update 40) and the newest drivers for my video card.
I had something very odd happen and it doesn't actually present an insurmountable problem but I need to know what happened to try to prevent it from happening again.
Ok, I'm currently in a swamp and have my small base built on top of a hill. I've been there for about 3 or 4 months (MC time).
Well, I closed the game earlier today and when I started to play again tonight, some of the chunks had re-generated or something and now I have 2 or 3 huge walls and a couple of deep 'pits' that were not there before. I'm very familiar with the area as it's an island and isn't very big and I've traveled all over it.
The 'walls' are entirely too big for me to simply trim them down with a pickaxe. Ditto with the deep pits. Way too big to try to fill with blocks.
Is there any way possible I can get the world re-generated somehow back to the way it was originally? I do periodically save the 'saves' folder but if I use one from a couple of days ago I'll lose major iron and slimeballs (which is why I'm temporarily living in the swamp to begin with).
If not, any idea what may have happened so this doesn't start happening all the time?
It happens when your Minecraft's chunks get corrupted. (Sorry I have no explaination for that) They will regenerate in order to replace those corrupted chunks. The pits could possibly have been the result of the corrupting and the chunks not having enough time to reload due to the quicker loading and framerate added in 1.8. (Once again sorry no solution) Hope this information helps!
Sometimes, I like to get on my PC, and check NoahConstrictor9 . tumblr . com. If you happen to like Photoshop art (Sometimes absolute crap, sometimes not), than NoahConstrictor9 is the Tumblr for you. (Please, I only have ten followers, and I've been running the blog for a few months, I need more...)
*Noah is so helpless, that he is advertising his TUMBLR blog of all things, on the Minecraft Forums website.
*Noah is very sorry.
To all of you who copied this and pasted it into a text document or something so you could read it, you fell for my trap! Why not checking out my blog? (Damn I've said that WAY too many times...) Weird fonts are awesome.
It happens here and there for no reason. Ive had my spawn chunks get corrupted and had to rebuild 3 chunks in the spawn zone in my server.
MCedit?

Ok realy sounds like u got defect chunks.
Also if u got so different new generatet chunks u seed have change in u level.dat. (Or u play u world form older Minecraft Version now in a newer one.)
First of all. !!! Make a backup of u world befor u try any programms or tricks !!!
If u want u can put u world in an compressed file and upload it to an filehoster. I will then try to fix the problem for u.
(Needet Information: -Minecraft Version world was created with. -Minecraft Version u last played u world <i think that was 1.8.3 at u side>. -If u have the original Seed)
It's obvious that something corrupted his save. And I think that he would appreciate it if you asked for correct information and typed so we can understand you.
