I am having trouble setting up a local network so that my girlfriend and I can play together on the same world. We call play fine when playing single player, but following the steps for opening to lan and logging in to multiplayer, nothing works no matter which computer we use. Just keeps saying error connecting. Please help.
She and I run Win7 on our laptops, and they are not new or fast laptops. We are networking through the comcast provided wifi router/modem.

When you open to Lan on either computer, does the other computer see it or not?
If it sees it, but fails to connect to it, then the problem is likely with the 'serving' computer's firewall blocking it.
Are you using the same version of minecraft? Either of you have any mods installed? Forge?
Make sure the firewall isn't blocking minecraft incoming connections.
