I have been having trouble port forwarding for a long while. It just does not seem to work for me, I've had a friend check it over who has done it a thousand times, and it works on his network just fine. But, when we do everything right on my network, make sure the numbers are right, ports are right, protocol is right, put in firewall exceptions, it still does not work. I can't understand why. I am trying to host a modded server, Blast off, so me and my other friend can play together.
I have tried to host vanilla MC, Starbound, Terraria, and different modded Mc servers. None work for some reason. I have a modem that can port forward, and a router aswell. I make sure i am port forwarding the correct one I am connected to. I have even tried bypassing the router and connecting to the modem itself, seeing as it has router functionality.
I already know how to get my default gateway, public ip, private/local ip. I do not need help with that. I Just want to know why it won't let me host anything at all and a fix for it.
Also, do you have a different router than him? If so, the port forwarding procedure is different.
If you are running OSX ("mac" to those people who don't even use the correct names, what skrubs), use PortMap to make things simpler: http://codingmonkeys.de/portmap/
It makes port forwarding a lot simpler to the less-techy people (press +, enter port, save).

Do the servers run from the right port?
