I've been away for a while due to personal things, and in that time I got a new computer to better play PC games, minecraft especially. However this new computer has a newer version of Windows than I'm used to and because of that I don't have the same layout. I can't simply search for appdata% and find the .minecraft folder. I know it has to be somewhere but I'm not finding it. I've no idea where to put mods anymore to enjoy things like pixelmon or the fossils and archeology mod.
My only problem is I can't tell if I have windows 8 or 10 on this thing but I know this much; its a Dell computer with Intel core i3, as well as it has a newer version of windows on this computer. If someone can give me instructions on modding for newer versions of windows that'd help tremendously.
I wasn't sure I don't keep up on the versions of operating systems so I had no idea windows 10 wasn't out yet. But I'll try what you suggested.
MAJOR EDIT: Ok I found the .mineraft file just fine, thank you so much for that helping hand. I also had some trouble trying to work forge as it doesn't seem like the normal way to do it wants to work, but I found a way around it easy enough so I should be fine from here.
Believe it or not you can get windows 10 beta right now here
He said he got a new computer. Thus pre-installed Windows. I know the preview is available, but if the OP were using it, he would know what he was doing and have no need to ask where the .Minecraft folder is.

Windows 10 isn't even out yet, so you couldn't possible have that. Windows 8.1 is the current market standard for new computer sales.
You can find the folder by pressing Windows+R and typing in %appdata% and press enter.
