Like the title says, I used to get anywhere from 200 to 300 FPS but recently after taking a long break from Minecraft (since like 1.6) I've come back to see what they've added and bam, slap in the face, 12 frames. My system specs are listed below as well as a list of mods (frames only improve by about 10 in vanilla)
First of all, if your CPU is really running at 1.2 GHz (Intel says it should be 3 GHz), I suspect you have a laptop with power saving enabled.
Also, a bug in the game causes it to prefer integreated graphics over dedicated graphics; your CPU has integrated graphics (Intel HD graphics); you have to force it to use the dedicated card; actually, this appears to be another manifestation of your computer defaulting to a power saving mode, the solution is to default to the "high performance graphics processor".
Otherwise, your specs should easily run the game; you can see the recommended system requirements here (note that these were significantly increased since 1.6; it is possible that 1.6 could run well on Intel HD graphics but 1.8 requires a much better GPU; the recommended for 1.6 isn't even the minimum for 1.8).
(also, CPUs don't slow down with age; they either work or they don't, or you get instability issues. However, your computer may be overheating due to a failed or clogged fan, which will cause the CPU to slow down to prevent itself from overheating; cleaning it out can fix this)
I'm not 100% sure it's running at 1.2ghz but thats what I found on Google
I'm running on a desktop, my two monitors might have something to do with some of the lag but I cant imagine it would effect me by over 200 frames
I tested the idle and strained temps of my CPU and GPU and they're average for both. I think if anything it would be the bug in the game because before I had installed the GTX I got around 30 frames and right after I installed it, it bumped to 300. I guess I'll have to wait for (microsoft is it now?) to fix it :/
I already answered this above, it says the nVidia one
Edit: I tried going back to some versions of 1.7 and got a crash every time I joined a server/world, I uploaded it to Pastebin if anyone wants to check it out
Update: Switched back to 1.8 and now it's at least running. I tried changing my settings from before when I played from "Fancy" and render distance of 34 chunks to "Fast" and render distance of 10 chunks and there's practically no difference in frames. What could have happened to my game? D:
I ordered a new motherboard yesterday so when that gets here I'll be able to upgrade to my i7 4790k (4.2 ghz I think, don't quote me on that) so hopefully that will fix this, if not I'll continue posting here

Specs:
CPU: Intel Pentium G2030 1.20GHZ (Will be upgrading soon)
GPU: nVidia Geforce GTX 650
PSU: Apevia Warlock 1100w (I know, that's alot)
Ram: 8GB
Unused HDD: 112 GB
Monitors: 2 (21" 1600x900 and 24" 1080p)
Any help would be appreciated, I think it might be my processor going bad, I'd like someone to confirm this or not

Moderatoringame, press f3 and read on the far right, what GPU is listed?
it could just be a case of 1.8 being harder on your system, your specs are a little on the low side

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
I listed it above, it says nVidia Geforce GTX 650

run 1.8 and press f3 to see what graphics card is being used, in may be using an integrated one instead of your nvidia one

Try using either Razer Cortex or Advanced Systemcare 8.
