Ok, so I like to think I am a person of average intelligence and should be able to figure out how to install a MOD or MODs onto my son's PC version of minecraft. However, it seems to be a very elusive goal after working on it off an on all weekend, I throw in the towel and decided to see if anyone has had the same experiences as myself and what were the solutions other than throwing the computer out the window. Ok, so that might be an extreme measure, but it sure would feel good for about 2 seconds.
Ok, so I installed a fresh version of Minecraft on the PC. No matter where I look, no matter what files I unhide, no many how many searches I do, I simply CANNOT find the minecraft.jar file. I've read countless answers to this question and have done pretty much everything I have seen or can think to do and still I am unable to find the minecraft.jar file. Is that something in a previous version of minecraft that went away and I'm seeing old articles and posts telling me how easy it is to find the file?
Second I tried to install the forge MOD as an 'easy' alternative to modifying the minecraft.jar file, etc. However when I try to launch, I get another error talking about the twitch jar which I have not downloaded or even heard anything about.
Like I said before, I think I am a reasonable intelligent person who knows his way around a computer file system, but I feel like I am missing something.
I even did a google search this morning to see if mods were an urban legend and didn't really exist, it seems like they are in fact real, yet elusive.

But Yes mods are real but there are a few requirements for some mods like some need minecraft forge some can go on there on and others need other mods with it i do agree with you it is super hard yet i have experienced the same problem if you can tell me the mods name and i may be able to help otherwise you can either watch some youtube videos on how to install the mod or maybe just don't download it at all but also you may have the wrong version on something like if it were a 1.7 mod and you used 1.8 forge it just won't work. I hope i helped

Also Forge errors for me too also the twitch.jar file is the file that allows minecraft to have twitch streaming in game by clicking Fn and F6 and alsosome mods sometimes just don't want to work and i don't know what is about forge it never works for me thats why i only have 2 mods Worldedit and Optifine none of those need forge i'm sorry bout this but u may just not be able to download it.
hmm... are you able to find the minecraft folder at all? the jar file should just be in the "bin" folder. For a much easier way, you may consider browsing the packs available in the Techinc or ATlauncher, as all you need is a minecraft account to log in. You can choose from a large selection of mod packs with various themes and difficulty levels, and the tedious setup process for utility mods like forge, NEI, etc are usually done for you. From there, any mod you'd want to add would just go in "mods" in the main minecraft folder, and playing a pack with mods you wouldn't have thought to add yourself adds to the fun of discovery.
What are you trying to install? With recent versions of MC you should rarely, if not ever, need to modify the .jar. The entire minecraft file directory should be in the hidden appdata folder in your user directory. C:\Users\*name*\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft

If someone in an S class cuts me off, I don't get upset. He obviously has important things to do. Now, someone in a Toyota? We're fighting.

Does that help?
