I just paid for and downloaded minecraft onto my computer, and every time I try to play it, I get this: (How would I go about fixing this?)

If you haven't updated your drivers, then you'll need to.
If that doesn't work, then there's a chance that you might need to update LWJGL. I'd suggest the auto-updater on the page.

Can you give me a list of specs, such as video card, and your DxDiag log?

This error is just a simple incorrect driver and all that is needed is the dxdiag to see what the gpu is and to then direct to the correct drivers for it.
Updating the LWJGL is also pointless as it is not needed for the new launcher, as stated in the post you linked
Note: This information is no longer correct for the new launcher (Minecraft 1.6 and above.)

please supply a dxidag log, http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1742903- will direct you in how to obtain the log.
I already gave you the only answer your gonna get, your computer is not able to play minecraft while it is running windows 8, you need to lower the windows version to one that supports your old hardware, or get better hardware

ModeratorYou will need to put back the OS that the laptop came with.
But saying that your laptop is only just making the minimum requirements for minecraft so t may likely run terribly

Haha, same, and I can't even develop or program anything very well at all. Web Design one didn't prep me for this.

ModeratorSo you still wouldn't be able to play a current version of minecraft
