The world is in the .minecraft folder, and all of the files are there. I think it is a spawn point failure as my minecraft often stops responding and crashes when I close it, and my spawn place was right on the edge of deep ocean, like in the shallow water there. So my spawn point is probably under water. I went in MCEdit to try to change my spawn point and character location, but my world wasn't in the list of worlds shown. When i said "open world" and found my world, and clicked on the level.dat file, MCEdit said an error has occurred. The error was "Unhandled exception: Not a NBT file with a root TAG_Compound (file starts with " " (0x00000000)"... Please help!!!
Your level.dat file is corrupted.
Do you have a backup of it? Alternately if there is an _old version of it you could try using that.
But first before attempting to repair your world you should make a copy of it and attempt to fix that, so that you can experiment without making things worse.
