Ok, so I started playing minecraft a long time ago, and there was this survival world that I had since day 1. I was gonna play a little bit and build some new buildings. (I was on 1.8) Then I noticed how the play was so laggy... So I switched to a 1.6 version with toomanyitems mod and optifine, because I liked toomanyitems. I then joined the world and half my stuff was gone -- and it was all my masterpieces.. I tried doing a system restore but it did nothing. It basically chopped off a bunch of my buildings. Like WHY?!!??! I just about have an emotional attachment with it.. so yeah, any ideas how I could somehow... fix it? Please.. If needed I'll upload an the map/images before and after
Unfortunately, unless you have a backup from before you loaded the world in 1.8 there is nothing you can do - 1.8 changed item IDs to use strings instead of numbers and older versions can't recognize them; 1.8 automatically converts them with no indication or warning about backwards incompatibility (Mojang's official stance is that older versions are no longer supported thus there is no attempt to provide backwards compatibility or fix bugs in them, as seen by their reply to this bug report).
There is a possible way to save your world, at least partially - the reason why chunks regenerate (resulting in stuff you built being deleted) is because the game (prior to 1.7) simply throws away entire chunks that contain invalid items (invalid blocks simply disappear) - and it is possible that by deleting all entities you may be able to prevent this from happening (you'll lose everything in chests, inventories, and so on but it is possible to use TMI or Open to LAN (enable cheats) to give yourself your items back).
This requires using MCEdit to delete entities, which is a relatively simple matter of selecting the world (at least the areas that were loaded into 1.8, a couple hundred blocks from where you were should be enough depending on render distance) and deleting entities from the selection menu; you can also try uploading your world here with this information so somebody can do it for you. Of course, make a backup before doing this - assuming you have a backup from before this happened.

1. Yes its hard to say but never ever try go back with an world to older MC versions. (Most time u loos something or all)
2. Yes its easy to remove entities with MC-Edit. But look out some items are converted to entities. (like Item Frames if i remember right.)
3. Thanx to suggest that people post there request there. I not so often look her in this Forum to help people. (RL some times eat all u time .-))

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
