Alright, so I've searched the forums, google, etc. Could not find anything recently pertaining to the issue I am having. It's very possible that I just haven't been searching "right" to find what I need help with. Much of what's coming up for me is two years old und not fixing my issue.
I'm on the new launcher, but running 1.5.2 on it since (for some time now, I just recently started playing Minecraft again after a year or so break) we cannot log into our accounts on the old launcher.
My fiance und I wanted to play on LAN together, so naturally we load up (on 1.5.2 on the new launcher that we just downloaded from Minecraft.net) und I opened up a world und started LAN. Naturally, I've been acquainted with the 0.0.0.0:##### for awhile. The fix for that is simple, open Run > cmd > ipconfig und grab the IP address und replace the 0.0.0.0 with it. That's what's always worked in the past when I used to bring my laptop over to my little cousin's house to play with him.
We did that. No avail, my fiance (who is on the same wireless network as I, we are both wireless und the only two on our router) opens up Multiplayer, immediately clicks on direct connect, he inputs the IP address along with the LAN server number und clicks connect. He waits for about a minute und then it says it cannot connect. We tried vice versa, same for me: I cannot connect via direct connect. As well as neither of our LAN's are showing up when clicking on Multiplayer. Then again, that has been like that since I can remember from 1.4.something.
We searched und searched online for various ways to figure this out, yet nothing is working for us. We've been through our firewalls, even turned them completely off, und still not connecting. So, I'm not entirely sure it's a firewall issue, which many people point towards. I'm not entirely sure what else it could be, und I've come to an end on searching the web und forums trying to find an answer to this just so we can get LAN working.
No mods are installed, only thing we have added is texture packs which I doubt have any bearing on this.
I've considered that it may just be the fact that we're using an old Alpha version to play, but that's the only thing I haven't tested. Because anything higher than 1.5.2 does runs poorly on my system und drains too much memory. Not to mention it's really laggy und all around unpleasant. He could probably play it just peachy, but me not so much. I would like to see if this issue could be resolved before having to install versions on my computer that are going to give it a hard time.
If I understand what you mean by that, yes. Otherwise I would not have been able to log in on my account, or surf the web whilst simultaneously exiting und reloading minecraft after various changes to our computers were made. Even outside of firewall, such as system protection und remote properties.
We have java set to both private und public in firewall und have tried just about everything we could find, be it changes to our network itself, to firewall (even after we turned firewalls off completely, found that it didn't work, und turned them back on...which seems like a fruitless task since with it off firewall settings would not apply but why not since nothing else seems to be working), und a bunch of other things that I cannot remember, sadly because we've tinkered with so much.
Even amoungst much that we tinkered with, we tried variations of changing some of it back to how we had it before trouble shooting trying to hopefully find a combination that worked.
Edit to add: Both of us went through the same exact steps, und both of us had an internet connection.
Also, afterthought, I don't know if it matters. But we both have 64-bit java that we use.
Neither java executable or arguments were selected when we first started, und we tried after with both selected (in edit profile on the launcher), as well as with arguments unselected und reverted back to both being deselected.
I had read that java didn't need to be used to use the new launcher, so I'm assuming by selecting the executable for java enabled it.
Alrighty, continued with troubleshooting und after hours...we finally figured it out.
It had nothing to do with my computer or our internet connection, however my fiance had akamai (sp) netsession activated. He deactivated that und now we can connect with no issues whatsoever. Thank you, Matthew, for willingness to help. It was appreciated.

When we try to connect, the error we get when it fails?
The various things we can remember we changed like system protection, firewall, remote, network, blah blah blah settings?
In any case, this is what we get every time:
Neither java executable or arguments were selected when we first started, und we tried after with both selected (in edit profile on the launcher), as well as with arguments unselected und reverted back to both being deselected.
