So I recently started playing minecraft and noticed that I'm only getting 15-25 fps when I play.
Here are my specs:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4702HQ CPU @ 2.20 GHz 2.20 GHz
Installed Ram 8.00 GB
Windows 8 64-bit Operating System, x64 based processor
Screen Resolution 3200 x 1800
My driver is up to date, Java is up to date, and I have optifine installed with all the settings fixed. I've tried allocating my RAM but I don't think it did anything. Maybe I'm not doing things correctly but nothing seems to work. I'm not sure if maybe it's just the server, minecraft in general, or if i need to upgrade my internet, or what. I run other games smoothly, so why is minecraft different?
also right click the windows button and hit device manager, once there click display adapters, select the graphics card you DONT want to use and click disable (my computer has the exact same specs as yours)

this guy here deserves attention. go visit him pls.
Also make sure the V-sync option is turned off on the game and the system settings!
although this is a good idea it does not apply here since he is only getting around 20 fps and vsync matches with your moniters refresh rate (which is usually 60)

A mod isn't gonna fix the issue....
1. Uninstall all the old Java versions, and install the newest 64-bit Java (make sure it's 64-bit)
2. Under power settings, put your laptop to high performance.
3. Go into the Nvidia control panel and set the Dedicated gpu to always be on

Doing that will waste the battery, as the whole purpose of having GPU switching is to save battery when the GPU is not needed
No. You're most likely just running on Intel HD that uses a fraction of power that the Nvidia GTX 870M would. That's the whole point of havin two GPUs and an automatic system that seamlesly switches between them depending on power drain/battery capacity.
If a laptop is running on battery (no charger connected) it's more likely to switch to Intel HD, even for highly demanding games. Miencraft, being a Java app, is not even recognized as a game by laptop's power management. That's why it always runs on Intel HD unless you manually force the settings.
He's saying he completely disabled the Intel HD GPU, which I'm actually not sure is even possible. So that it would just constantly run off the nvidia card

I use a laptop and it worked fine for me, infact that is the only way minecraft would even use my nvidia card
