The launcher starts, but never finishes to load. It's been doing this for a very, very long time since it is the reaosn I stopped playing a year ago.
I was working on texture packs, and would often close/open/close minecraft, so I had become impatient and quit for good.
Now I want to report it instead of just being mad. I apologize if I missed a rule on posting, I couldn't find the guidelines on the subject. Here is the log information of the launcher:
(I don't know how to do a spoiler)
[16:47:15 INFO]: Minecraft Launcher 1.6.11 (through bootstrap 100) started on windows...
[16:47:15 INFO]: Current time is Feb 19, 2015 4:47:15 PM

[16:47:15 INFO]: JFX is already initialized
[16:47:16 INFO]: Refreshing local version list...
[16:47:17 INFO]: Refreshing remote version list...
it stays at the last line forever. Profiles are never loaded, and I can never "switch profile/account" (I'm not even logged in to begin with)
I posted the issue here but been told it was a technical issue, not a bug issue. I don't understand how bug reports really work so if you can't help it would still be helpful to understand who I'm supposed to report this to, I'm french maybe that's why I don't understand.
The next message should be "[xx:xx:xx INFO]: Refresh complete."
The fact that it doesn't come up means that the connection over the network to retrieve the remote version list doesn't work.
This could be a firewall issue or an SSL issue (which could also be caused by a firewall or antivirus).
It's not a bug, it's a problem with the software and/or software configuration on your computer.
Minecraft needs to talk on the Internet and your computer won't let it.
All java version are autorised through the fire wall, still to make sure I added "Minecraft.exe" to the list
Although I didn't believe this was the problem since when the loading does "finish" (the log is the same, but there's 3 pages instead of only the log page), but can't choose a profile, the front page of minecraft updates does show (thus indicating an internet connection)
Still I deactivated my anti virus and firewall to verify further, still wasn't working.
Was curious, so I let it open, went to bed. 10 Hours later minecraft was open. Maybe that information can help you help me
I really wish there was two official launchers, so if one didn't work we could verify if it was the launcher's fault or the PC's fault
We need more info to really help, e.g. more logs than what you've provided.
The "news" in the launcher is shown via an HTTP connection and this would work even when your a/v or firewall has an HTTPS scanner than prevents other connections from working. HTTPS scanning is a security breach and java won't allow those connections to be made.
Usually this functionality is not obvious to disable and it does have a separate control than just virus scanning.
Except simply getting the log the way I did, are there other ways for me to gather more information? (hidden log or something)
Because the log here is always the same. I will post few more logs the same way if you ask me to, I'll have to do it once I'm back on my computer however (I'm not home at the moment)
I had been busy right now I'll be trying to fix my problem and I'll take note of all the logs.
I opened minecraft, strangely after 5 minutes it opened (I believe I had mentioned that either it nover "opens" (shows log but never allows to select profile or see the change profile button at all)
So right now it's opened, the log is:
[01:18:54 INFO]: Minecraft Launcher 1.6.11 (through bootstrap 5) started on windows...
[01:18:54 INFO]: Current time is May 23, 2015 1:18:54 AM

[01:18:54 INFO]: proxy == DIRECT
[01:22:15 INFO]: JFX is already initialized
___
And it stops there and the profiles never load, I can create new profiles but the Play button never becomes available.
I intend to keep it on all through the night until it opens, like I had done last time to see what happens.
I'll post the log tomorrow morning for when that happened (assuming it will)
did all of those they're not the issue, since it's been a while however maybe updating java again could work (however I seriously doubt it's the issue)
(results of what I tried yesterday)
It didn't work like last time even after a whole night it still didn't launch ,the log is the same [as it was when I went to bed]:
[01:18:54 INFO]: Minecraft Launcher 1.6.11 (through bootstrap 5) started on windows...

I tried removing mods, which really were just different minecraft versions (that means the mod didn't take effect unless I could start the game, it was optifine)
Didn't work, deleted .minecraft
Worked at first and I think it's because no account was logged in (I always felt that "switch users" solved issues but could never click it because it would never finish loading)
Now the log was this:
[12:57:21 INFO]: Minecraft Launcher 1.6.11 (through bootstrap 5) started on windows...

So I,ll test and play multiple times because for this here to happen I had to tr and try, I believe the problem will come back so I'll post again when it does and if it doesn't after some time, I'll let everyone know
It really sucks when you don't know if a problem is actually solved. This, minecraft working happened many times and I thought I fixed it then it'd do it again. Only difference is last time (when I posted this) it stayed glitched for months instead of for dozen of tries and then it starting
Yeah it is what I expected, was fun I was able to start it a second time and it had worked again, play for 2 hours however now I'm again unable to start it
The log is the same as last time:

I'm doing some diggin to see if there's a solution online, maybe someone found something since last time I looked for one
Have you bought the game new recently? Did this happen on your first time launching the game, or have you been able to play before this occured?
If you haven't already try adding javaw.exe to your firewall (I'm not sure how effect that would be however). Windows firewall usually informs you when it blocks something for the first time, so you can allow it through. If you were not informed, try seeing if you have another firewall (usually one that is packaged with an antivirus).
Also, I think adding minecraft.exe to the firewall would not do much (if anything) but I could be wrong. If you want to try other stuff, you can try adding launcher.exe to the firewall (from \.minecraft\)
If you have had the game for awhile and this didn't start from the "get-go" then your last resort could be to entirely reset minecraft. This won't have an issue as long as you delete everything but your saves file, so you could keep your saves.
Here are some things you could think about not deleting:
\saves\ - Single Player Save Files
\options.txt - Your In Game Settings
\screenshots\
\mods\ - (You won't have this unless you have used forge or similar,)
It started since the new launcher came out, the 1.6.2 luncher
Never had any issue until then. Many times I thought about download 1.5.2 luncher just so I can play.
As for deleting the .minecraft, I,m sure you read the few last post but yes, this is what had worked actually (temporarely; I was able to log in twice, then the bug again, except instead of being stuck at:
[18:26:14 INFO]: JFX is already initialized
It now gets stuck at:
[18:26:25 INFO]: Refreshing remote version list...
I'll try what you said about the firewall however I "know" it's not the issue since I had no firewall in the past (I had high trust in me not going in the wrong sites or downloading the wrong file, etc) I'll try that however since it'd suck if you were right all along and I never tried it lol. That's what happens sometimes when you think "no, my keys are not *there"* and they actually are.
I just updated to Java 8 update 45 (instead of update 25) and no changes (both 64bits)
I did some digging as I said I would however I did not find anything.
Edit: Thank you for replying by the way!
Edit 2: tried what you said with the Windows firewall, as I expected it is authorised (plus if it wasn't, why would Minecraft have ever worked at all today and yesterday? [those 2-3 times when it worked]
Is there a way to delete the login info? When you open minecraft instead of telling you to sign in, it loads profiles directly if you have signed in recently. Is there a way to delete that file?
Cause if I'm right and the problem is caused by being already logged in, that could be [an annoying but] effective solution
The problem is I'm already logged in when it launches. I'll have to try few times to make sure that's truly the issue, but if it is, a solution could be to make a batch file that deletes "launcher_profiles.json" before before starting minecraft
If that's the problem I hope there's a place to report it, cause if I'm right and the problem is literally is the launcher's fault, then it's their responsability to fix it
I'll do more testing cause it simply could have been a coincidence
[12:57:25 INFO]: Refreshing remote version list...
[13:00:16 INFO]: Refresh complete.
What happens between these two logs is the launcher connecting to some Internet server and downloading the current list of versions (and probably their list of dependencies). So if this takes a long time, or never completes it would seem to be related to network issues (firewall issues fall into this category as well).
