Hi There I am having some issues joining multiplayer servers. I do not know why but I get this message

io.netty.channel.ConnectTimeoutException: connection timed out:

Please can anyone help me figure this out I have already restarted my router, re-installed minecraft and restarted my computer (MAC)

That particular error message appears to mean that your computer tried connecting, but it never got an answer back from the server. It may mean that your internet is not working, or that the server you are connecting to is down. I would say the latter is more possible since you restarted your router.

So is there anything I can do or do I just have to wait it out?

You may want to look for a major server that is up most of the time such as mineplex. Sometimes you may not be able to connect due to having a version of minecraft that is not up to date with the server or is above the server's current version. IE connecting to a 1.7.5 server when you are using 1.8.1 or vise versa.

Another thing, are you trying to connect to a friend's server, or a major server that's hosted by a company and run by people?

And also, if you are clicking Direct Connect to connect, I would recommend clicking "Add Server" instead as you can put the IP in and the server will appear on the list with it's condition and a Message of the Day (MotD)
