As soon as I got the update for the launcher i started having problems. At first it was only allowing me to play in offline mode, i decided that ok ill just restart my computer and reconnect to the internet, it didnt work. I was really confused so i just turned it off and left Minecraft alone for a couple days hoping it would clear up but it didnt.

At this point i knew i had two options

A - Uninstall and reinstall minecraft or

B - just let it sit for a while

Being the idiot i am i uninstalled it. After i reinstalled it and tried to log in it brought me to a window like this


Sorry, but we couldn't connect to our servers.
Please make sure that you are online and that Minecraft is not blocked.
(SunCertPathBuilderException:Unable to find valid CERTIFICATION path to requested target)

This popped up after i hit enter.

So i grabbed all of the files from the .minecraft folder in %appdata% and threw them onto a flash drive as a backup and deleted the .minecraft folder and uninstalled and reinstalled minecraft again.

Now when i try and open the launcher i get this crash report instead

Please fix the error and restart.

Check your computer's time/date settings. I'm fairly certainly this was caused by the minecraft launcher update, and Java will really, stupidly freak out if the time/date are not correct.

The error that you are getting is common when some piece of software is trying to insert itself as an SSL proxy.
Did you have a whitelist on the old minecraft / java to prevent it from being SSL scanned or something like that?
If so you need to put the new launcher / java in the same whitelist.

I checked the time and date settings, it all seems to be fine.





And no i did not have a whitelist on the old minecraft to prevent that

I'm not sure that this is an antivirus problem. One would think that an antivirus would notify you that it blocked a "potential threat".

Some security software scans your network connections (HTTP/HTTPS) for potential threats before they land on your hard disk.
Java will not allow such scanning on HTTPS connections because the security chain is broken, i.e. security communications without interception is the point of HTTPS.

Is the kind of error you would expect if the SSL security chain was violated.

Im using Kaspersky Internet Security

KIS is known to cause issues due to its SSL scan feature.

Wherever "Networking Settings" are in Kaspersky you must disable "Scan encrypted connections"

(adjusted for whatever version of kaspersky you might have) But you have to whitelist multiple applications if you do this, the launcher bootstrapper (minecraft.exe), the java that runs the launcher java application, the java the runs minecraft (as specified in your launcher profile), and these applications may change as updates to minecraft and/or the launcher and/or java happen.
