So recently my friend started his own smp server, a private one for me and our other friends to play on and have fun. He sent me the IP(words) and it said "Can't Resolve Hostname" even though the IP was correct and we even double checked it. He said that i should just try the numbered IP, which i did. I typed it in and it just said "Can't connect to server" the second i tried connecting. I restarted my minecraft several times and even restarted my internet. I tried again and still "Can't connect to server. Please help me with this ive been trying to fix it forever. P.S. I have a Mac
1. Your friend's IP has changed due to no, an unofficial, or unreliable host or hosting program. If the server has no host besides the owner its IP will constantly change.
2. You may be too far away from your friend to be able to connect. (believe it or not)
3. Something with your or their computer is refusing connection. (like a firewall) Or an address that your computer does not trust.
4. They did not properly set up the server. If nobody else is able to join unless they are right by them that may be the case.
5. If they have no hosting and their server client is closed then the server is shut down.
6. Or it could be a temporary connection glitch that we all have at some time. Try connecting later.
If none if this helps you may want someone who is more professional than me, but hey, just trying to help!
That doesn't fix everything
