My friends and I recently switched from Realms to HostHorde as a server hosting service. We carried along with us our map of about a year, and everything seemed fine for about a month.
Then randomly, the map started to deteriorate; especially in the newer, 1.8+ chunks that hadn't previously been loaded in the 1.7.x versions of the map. Blocks would go missing faster and faster, and eventually entire clusters of blocks (up to around 20 blocks in random formations) would disappear. We would find random lava blocks while mining, just individual blocks; as well as individual stone or cobblestone blocks on the surface of water in ponds and in oceans (individual, but usually in large pockets). There would also be large pockets of air under the water as well.
Closer to the end of the last server, we found an area that looked like a jungle had just stopped spawning, completely cut in half, with a jungle temple just floating on the water. I'll attach a picture.
Now we started a completely fresh, new 1.8 server, but are noticing some of the little things again, even only a couple hours in -- lava blocks where they're not supposed to be, a stone near the top of a pond randomly, etc.
Any ideas? Is this a server host issue, or corrupted maps?
For the record, the only mod we used was McMMO, until recently when I tried to save some buildings from our old map as schematics with WorldEdit. I have NOT used WorldEdit with our new map.
I can tell you that most modded worlds will have severe trouble transitioning from 1.7 to 1.8. Vanilla should be ok, modded, not so much.
Now granted, you're on bukkit and using bukkit plugins and I don't know whether the same will apply. This ideally you should ask on whatever bukkit platform forums you're using (cauldron, mcpc, craftbukkit etc.)
On that note, other than for spigotmc I wasn't aware any bukkit servers have 1.8 version? Also is your plugin updated for 1.8?
We are having the same problem on my 1.8 Bukkit server. The only plugin I am using is AutoShutdown so the server can restart on a daily basis. The one thing I have noticed is that the missing blocks only occur on the boundaries of chunks. Y-coord doesn't seem to make a difference, however, most missing blocks are below y=15. The Spawn chunks appear immune, so I am guessing it is probably a coding error in Bukkit's chunk saving/loading routine. Also, player placed blocks are not immune to the disappearances. I have considered changing to a 1.8.4 Vanilla server, but the performance is lower. Anyone who might know any other fixes to the problem, please let us know. Thanks. I am recruiting for my server as well.
