I honestly have no idea what the problem could possibly be right now. Whenever i try to log onto my friend's server i get 1 of 3 error messages
"error occurred while contacting login servers, are they down"
- the login servers were up any time i checked
"Internal Exception: java.IOException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host"
"Disconnected"
Now I'm able to log onto other servers using the same account, I'm even able to log onto the teamspeak that is hosted on the same IP. Additionally i'm able to log onto this specific server using a different username. However when i had a good friend of mine try to log onto the server using my username, they get the same errors. I've already tried updating java and reinstalling MC.
My client is completely vanilla and the server is spigot (anyone i've talked to doesn't have any issues logging onto the server).
The first and final disconnection messages are not a client-side error, so there isn't much you can do to fix them. The server is having issues connecting to Mojang's session servers and thus it is refusing to allow you to connect.
The second message means that somewhere along the lines the connection was disrupted, meaning that it could possibly be on your side, or be the server's fault.
You'd need to talk to your friend on what the server log is outputting when you are attempting to connect to try and figure out why it's happening.
