can someone please tell me how to update forge without losing any mods?

Shut down MC and launcher. Get installer from forge download page. Install. Open MC launcher, hit edit profile on your profile you wish to alter, and change game version from "release-1.7.10-Forge xx.xx.1234" to "release-1.7.10-Forge xx.xx.x.5678"
Obviously I'm making up numbers but you should know already what you're changing it from and into.
Save profile and hit play.

and i will still have all the mods and things i had before?

Yes. It doesn't install a new profile for you. Just points the current one to a different forge version within /minecraft/versions folder, that's all.

wait when i go to edit profile i dont see what i just downloaded do i do something withe file i downloaded is it supposed to be a .jar file?
