I've played Minecraft for a couple of years with nothing more than an occasional hiccup or glitch here and there. This morning, however, that changed. When I opened the launcher and hit play, everything seemed normal at first, but after sitting for just a moment, the "play" button is able to be pressed again and the game doesn't launch, just remaining at the launcher.
I feel this may be related to updating my Java last night to the most current version at that time (1.8.0_31-b13)
Also I allow the "snapshots", and it may have also started happening between pre5 and pre6.
Since it never launches the game and the launcher stays running I don't get any error messages or a crash report.
I've tried reinstalling the game but nothing changed, so I'm not sure where to go from here...
Here are my specs:
Toshiba Satellite L455 / Windows 7 64bit / Pentium Dual Core T4400 @2.20GHz / 4096 MB RAM / Direct X 11 / Mobile Intel 4 Series Chipset Family
I think that is about everything that is relevant... if I have forgotten anything or more information is required I will do my best to provide it. Thank you for your time and help.

You do realize that the "latest version" is a beta and betas have bugs, right?
