Hello everyone. I don't have much experience in Minecraft for PC but I made an account to ask a question. I have been getting less than stellar frame rates and I'm not 100% sure why. I understand not getting 100+, but with my current setup, 30fps is a good thing.
Right now I'm running a Dell Inspiron 570 Phenom II x4 2.8ghz, 8gb RAM, and the integrated Radeon 4200 card. I suspect my card to be the bottleneck, but I have to question it when I look at 3-4 year old posts of people getting very good frame rates on what I'd believe to be lesser hardware. I have Optifine, render on around 8-10 and almost every option put on the faster settings.
I'd appreciate any help I could get. I'm not wanting to drop much money on a better graphics card because when I move out from home, this computer is going to stay I'm sure but I'd like to get 30-50 fps if possible. Thanks for reading.
As an update, I set my render to 4 and a couple other settings like turning off all animations. I can get about 40 if I stand in a field, 25-30 with a little bit of stuff going on, and I know it's meaningless, but actually 100 in the small window.
But the sad part, my girlfriends laptop with worse specs and an Intel HD 4000 integrated card with default RAM allocated to Minecraft got a pretty steady 60 FPS without Optifine and all default options but render and VBO off. The HD 4000 can't really make that big of a difference can it?
Sounds like I could get a pretty cheap card and be fine enough. I actually didn't like the really high frame rates so 60 suites me just fine. It looks too artificially smooth like watching a TV with a really high refresh rate. Thanks for the help everyone.
