So, I just bought minecraft, and I've been trying to download it for Mac. It works fine until I get to the launcher part. When I click "play" it starts downloading all the sounds and such. When it reaches the end at something called "netty-all-4.0.23.Final.jar", it stays stuck there for about an hour or so, and finally just gives up. I can click "play" again and it will continue to download where it left off, but it will not finish. Eventually after a couple more trues it will just say "downloading" and will not show me how much it has downloaded. I've tried a couple things such as making sure I had the most updated version of Java and that I had enough storage, and both check out, but this problem still occurs.
Also, I've noticed in the Launcher Log that it says a lot of things like "[WARN]: Had local file but it was the wrong size...had (random number here) but expected (random number here)." and [ERROR]: Gave up trying to download http://resources.download.minecraft.net/ (followed by various numbers and letters each time). Does this have anything to do with my problem?
Am having the same issue, however I'm on a windows computer & I've re downloaded after a few year hiatus from the game. Don't know about the hour long thing, because I get so impatient with it and quit... have also tried re downloading Java a few times, restarting computer, all that - happens with the new and old launcher for me. Sorry I couldn't help you mate, for some reason we're stuck in the same boat! :S
Edit: After a long wait, it works - then when I try to connect to a server, it says to try restarting and when I do - it starts downloading EVERYTHING AGAIN!! It's just going to do the same thing again.
Also, get this. I have also tried this on a Windows Desktop computer after someone told me to try a desktop instead of a laptop (I was using a MacBook Air first.) And yet I still have this same problem.

You mean the same problem occurred on the Windows desktop like from MacBook?

That's quite bizarre.
