Hi I hope I'm in the right place my apologies if I'm not, I've purchased the official Minecraft today for my son and have installed the launcher from the site and when I go to click "play" it downloads but will not let me continue with the game instead it just downloads again (the launcher log says something about being unable to download "version and libraries"), I have spent many hours today reading forums etc and have updated Java and also my graphics driver, I have also deleted the game many times and reinstalled with the same outcome, so I guess I am now stuck without any answers I have copied the launcher log like I've seen many do before and I'm hoping someone may be able to help me get my son started, I am also running windows 8.1.

That's assuming that any files ever get successfully downloaded. The snippet doesn't show any that I saw.

There is the possibility that minecraft is being blocked from making outbound connections by a firewall type application.
