I've put in 2 new texture packs, I have no mods. The texture packs are both x512.
I would think the game would be able to load faster, but it takes a few minutes. I've allocated 12 of 16GBs of RAM to the game but it helps in no way.
My computer specs:
AMD 7700k quad core
16GBs of RAM
windows 7 64 bit
nvidia geforce GTX 770
I have the distance render on 32 as well, but it loads quite fast. When I break blocks it takes a second or two to disappear and then drop, it does this with all blocks. I also have used the default texture pack to play the game, with the same slow block dropping. Though the game loads fast as usual with just the default pack. Any reason why all this is happening despite my pc specs?
I've updated my java and graphics card, perhaps I should update my CPU drivers just to be safe as well? I'm usually quite paranoid about CPU driver udpates as I don't want to damage or make it useless.

All dependent on your processor, as the guy above me has stated already. But either way, it'll load slower than 16x
