I have a laptop with windows 8.1. When we run vanilla minecraft I can average 50 fPs. But running modded with ftb launcher it's like 2-3 spf(seconds per frame) I read modded minecraft doesn't like the latest Java. so I installed 8.11 but that doesn't help. I did try technik launcher with just tekkit mod pack it ran 20 fps. Any thoughts how I can get FTB to run decent? 20 fps is plenty fine for me. I have tried Java 1.7 but it just crashes out.
Mods can be very intensive regarding cpu and memory. If you're running one of the big FTB packs, you will tax your computer, yes, if it's normally running at 50fps.
I'd start with a smaller pack. Like FTBLite. Or make your own.
I find most FTB packs have mods with way too much overlap function wise anyway.
