Hi. My friend and I are trying to connect to a minecraft server, but can't. We keep getting the message, "Can't connect to server" Does anyone have an idea why that is and what we can do to fix it? We both get this message when we try to do multiplayer mode.

I am trying to connect to my friends server and visa-verse. We have tried our port servers and downloading the bucket for Minecraft. We also tried plugging in each other's server addresses, and tried direct connect. When we went back into the game, we still could not connect our servers. We are both new Minecraft players, and know very little about how to connect. Please help.
