Does the launcher profile have a JVM selected that is one of the ones you uninstalled? (You did properly uninstall them rather than just deleting the files, right? otherwise the registry will tell Minecraft that they are still installed).

The profile I'm using points to the correct folder for 64-bit Java in its updated form, and all old versions of Java were uninstalled at the end of the update's installation process.
Updated to the latest Java - which I guess must be 8. My original post was put up before I realised this was Unmodded Support - came to this thread via search.

1) This is for unmodded support.
2) The OPs problem was caused because they were using Forge with mods and Forge does not work with Java 8. Did you update to Java 8?
