My dad just uploaded Java a few days ago. But before that, i had tried to delete an extra Minecraft icon. I had one pinned to my task bar. I tried to delete the one on the desktop, but the computer wouldn't let me cause it was pinned. So i didn't, but after that, Minecraft would open like normal, and when i got to the page that had the play button, i pressed PLAY. the page went away like it normally does, but usually, the page re-appears in a few seconds. Now it wont re-appear at all!! please i dont know what to do!!
You may have had Minecraft configured to use 64bit Java? The Java auto updater only updates 32bit Java and while it's doing that automatically uninstalls any out of date 64bit Java! So you may just need to manually reinstall 64bit java. (or have your father do it). If that's a problem you can reconfigure your Launcher profile to use whatever Java you now have installed by changing the path field.
wait do i put -Xmx1G -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode -XX:-UseAdaptiveSizePolicy -Xmn128M in replacing the exisiting JVM thing or after it?
nope. it did not do anything. I discovered that when ever i press play, it downloads, it says launching, and than it goes into a blank game output page.

Did you have this problem on an earlier version of Minecraft?
Sorry to revive this thread, but I have a similar problem. I just updated both 32 and 64-bit Java, and after I hit "Play" on the launcher, the window closes, and that's it - nothing else happens. Both Javas were manually installed, and the relevant outdated versions removed.
I'm running MC 1.6.4 for mod compatability, with the JVM argument -Xmx4G (on a PC with 8Gb memory)
^put that into your JVM arguments, it fixed mine up.
1. Run Launcher
2. Edit Profile
3. Go to JVM arguments
May be your problem. Did you update MC as well?

Bad news--- i had to uninstall MinecraftForge. forge is what was causing the problem. anyone got an answer to why forge wont work?
When it is ready. Forge is a complicated piece of software that takes time after a big version change to update.
