Initial heap size set to a larger value than the maximum heap size
Picked up _JAVA_OPTIONS: -Xmx512M
The game is unplayable at the 512 standard allocation due to mods/texture packs, and I only have run into this problem since updating java to 8/25 from a 7 version. I get the same when trying to force it back to an installation of java 7. Open to all ideas.
After a little more digging, it appears the issue is due to Razer Synapse being installed, so had to create an environment variable to handle it. Problem resolved.
