My laptop doesn't run Minecraft very well (lags like crazy), but I have found it handy on server play to use the laptop to run an alt ID (borrowed from a friend) as a placeholder while I play my usual ID on my PC, keeping my home base chunks loaded when I'm out of range. Unfortunately, since upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1 today, I cannot get the game to run on the laptop. Starting it with the standard launcher results in crash reports, and trying it with Magic Launcher gets no results at all--Magic Launcher closes as normal when I hit "login", but there's no indication afterwards that the game is even trying to start up.
Any help would be appreciated; I am utterly non-tech-savvy, so explanations at a "for dummies" level would also be appreciated. As stated in the header, I am running MC 1.8.1, with Java 7 (1.7.0_71, to be precise).
I'm not sure that's an option for me, as I received this laptop refurbished with Windows 8 already installed--I have no idea what OS it originally had. But thanks for the info.....I guess I just won't be able to keep things growing and smelting and whatnot around my home base anymore while I'm out of range. *shrugs*
