Alright so, let me get straight to the point. Whenever I play Minecraft, modded or not, my laptop (HP laptop--Don't know the version) decides to overheat. I move my laptop to cold surfaces, keep it propped up so it won't overheat, etc. After a few minutes of getting on a server, my laptop would start overheating and the fan would be slightly louder then it would be before. I don't know how hot it is exactly, but say...a few months ago it had started overheating and shutting down if I would play.
Is there any way this can be fixed without cleaning out the fan or taking the laptop apart?
Note: Before with an old Asus laptop, my dad took it apart to clean out the fan. He was putting it together and broke a wire in it, causing it not to turn on. He won't let me clean out the fan on the HP laptop, due to him being scared he'll break it once again.
Thanks you, any help is appreciated. ^-^

How bad did he break the wire in the old one, couldn't you just electrical tape it together or resolder it to the mobo? As for the temps, get HWMonitor from here http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html and run it and see what the temps get up to.
Temps up to 90c are normal for a laptop. If you can't open it the next best thing is to find the air intake and blow it out with compressed air. A ton of dust will come out the other side. (You can buy compressed air in a can at walmart)
Also, you can download speedfan to force your fans to run maxed out all the time. That requires some more work though.

If someone in an S class cuts me off, I don't get upset. He obviously has important things to do. Now, someone in a Toyota? We're fighting.
These forums are dumb and break my links. I'm bubbleawsome on steam too.

90C sounds a little hot, the highest mine got while playing DayZ for like 5 hours was like 80C.
use aida64 its a grate benchmarking tool for checking temps and cpu useage
also the max temps a cpu should be at is 85-90
as soon as it goes over that keep a good eye on it if its like that for about 1-2m shutdown the laptop/desktop and leave it unpluged if its a laptop disconnect it from a charger if its plugged in for about 10-25m then power it back on and you should be good to go
if its a desktop shut it down and make sure everything is good inside then leave it for about 10m and power it on and you should be good to go

Aida64 will cause nearly any laptop to throttle. Desktops with the stock intel cooler will throttle under aida, much less a tiny laptop. Also, letting it cool natually doesn't fix the problem. That heat will just build up again. You will be constantly turning it off and on just to prevent it doing that by itself?
The only real ways to get a laptop cooler are
Force it to run slower. I reduced my CPUs speed by 0.6Ghz and dropped 20w of power consumption.
Force the fans to run faster
Clean it out
Open it up and reapply thermal paste
Mod the cooling system.
They all work, it just depends on what you are comfortable doing.

I'm not sure how badly he broke the wire, but I do know that when he tried to put it together in the way it was before, it wouldn't turn on at all. I'll also try and get the HWMonitor and try it out with modded/un-modded minecraft.

I'll try to get the compressed air in the can at Walmart if the temperature is higher then 90c, as well as getting speedfan.

^^ Alright, I'll try out these methods but for downloading things and running it, my laptop may think it's a virus...Anyhow, I'll start to try these out. Thanks guys.

Listen to this guy ^^
It's what they are built for. Some can even get up to 100c but then clockspeeds get throttled.
