Hey guys ive been playing on a singleplayer world with my cousin (LAN) for some time now. We have put a quite decent amount of effort and time into the world. We last played on it friday 19th December. It all worked fine. But today i entered the world and saw that every single item in both chests and invetory was missing/invisible - or at least not availible. WHAT IS THIS BLACK MAGIC???
The world was on 1.8.1. On the 22December i started playing a prison server (multiplayer) with my brother that used 1.7.10. Without thinking i entered the local save (singleplayer) with 1.7.10 Could this participate to the odd event of missing/invisble items?
As last year, and probarly several years before that, the chests around christmas get a "skin" so they look like presents. Could this participate to the odd event of missing/invisble items?
Ive downloaded thex-ray mod just to spot caves around a slimechunk i use as a slimefarm, and light the caves up with torches. Could the x-raymod participate to the odd event of missing/invisble items?
I checked out more of the local world (singleplayer) and found out that only chests in the area or around the area where i was when i entered with 1.7.10 was missing/invisible. chests further away still had items. I also found out that on my way to some coordinates we`ve built something, i found that there was several empty chunks in a line
What could have triggered this? whats the cause of this? Is it possible to recover the server so its all normal again? pls guys. Help
1.8 and 1.7.10 are NOT backwards compatible. In other words, entering a 1.8 world in 1.7.10 or older will cause you lose all of your items. This is an known issue with 1.8 and later. Your items are gone forever. If you don't have a backup, you will have to spawn all of your items back in via creative.

Thx, but is that the reason why there is empty chunks as well? and if this is a know issue, why havnt minecraft warned the users or tried to fix it (if they havnt tried that is). Cause its actually quite easy to enter in the wrong version/uptdate if u play on both mulitplayer and singleplayer as in multiplayer the server often doesnt have the absolute latest version.
And due to the fact they are not backwards compatible, is lost items the only issue that occurs? Cause the empty chunks wasnt there before. what could have created those/resulted in that?
Lets say i put the amount of stuff (about the correct amount) of items back in the chests where i lost items and continue playing like nothing happened. Will i notice effects of the version went from 1.8.1 to 1.7.10 ( not backward compatible)?
is there anything i cant make/build/craft in version 1.8.1 in that world? Is there anything i cant do due to this issue of not backward compatible versions?
I don't know, but you could use a back up if you have one, you'll just lose a few recent things probably. You also may be able to restore something by looking it up, I bet others have had similar problems.
You can use too many items mod. There are 7 saves that you can store an inventories worth of items, it seems to be compatible with 1.7.x and 1.8.x. Only exception is that 1.8 items will not be visible in 1.7.
There is nothing you can't do in 1.8.1 that you could do in 1.7.10. There is currently nothing you can do about it not being backwards compatible except to avoid going to your 1.8.1 worlds in previous versions of Minecraft. It is clearly stated in the 1.8 FAQ that downgrading is not and has never been supported, and will not be supported in the future.
In other words, to stay safe, don't play on worlds that have been played on in a newer version of Minecraft.
