I've been playing MC for as long as I can recall and then, a couple of days ago, I got this error:
This is still happening and I'm somewhere between crying and throwing my computer out the window. Please, help me.
I tried listening to the vids on how to fix it, but I need a step-by-step directional guide for someone who's technologically challenged.
Since the problem seems to be with your Java, your best bet is probably to try out the new launcher (which has the correct version of Java built in). You can download the new launcher at https://launcher.mojang.com/download/Minecraft.exe, and it should automatically set itself up.
That will still leave a possible damaged java install on the system (depending on how the new launcher does it)
It would be better to fully remove all instances of java via the control panel, then install a fresh
First, go to the Programs and Features in Control Panel (Add and Remove Programs on XP). Uninstall everything that says Java in the name. Then, go to http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp to re-install Java.

Press the windows key and keyword search "uninstall" (w/ out quotes) and open what says "uninstall/change a program" scroll down to see java, and click it. Then, uninstall it. After fully uninstalling it, google search java and download java jre 7. After fully installing it, click the minecraft application, and you should be able to go.
