So I used to play minecraft for a while without any issues. I bought an SSD and had to reinstall windows on that. Now whenever I play, the memory usage slowly increases to around 88% (I have 4 GBs allocated) then there is a lag spike for roughly 5 seconds and the memory usage drops back down to around 5%. I know the lag spike happens when minecraft clears the cache, but is there anyway to fix the lag spike?
Yes there is. Don't give so much memory to MC. Then it won't have so much garbage to collect. If after GC the memory usage drops to 5% then you don't need more than the default 1G allocation.
It's normal for it to go up and down like a saw tooth. Garbage collection is like... You have 10 glasses in your cupboard, you use them when you want and leave the dirty glasses on the counter. one day you go to get a glass for you and your friend and you find only one clean glass. So you sit down and wash all the dirty glasses. It shouldn't take too long unless you have way too many glasses.

Huge lag spike when Minecraft clears the cache.
