LAN connection only works if you and your friend are using the same internet connection.

What version are you using? If it is 1.8 that is your problem. 1.8 is bugged , but they fixed it in 1.8.1 so if you update both computers to 1.8.1 it should work fine.

Apparently the creeper is a spy. Why he is a spy , well I don't really know.
For some reason it wasnt working for me either, and java wasn't being let through the firewall. I let java through the firewall on both computers and it started working.
