Anyone have any idea what it causing these weird lighting issues? I have no idea what the source of the light is and it makes things look funky from the outside due to the way light passes through stairs.
I forgot to add that I'm using Smooth Lighting: Maximum and the problem goes away if I switch to Smooth Lighting: Off
The problem is also present at Smooth Lighting: Minimum
The lighting issues are visible from any distance. I can stand on those blocks from the outside and still see it.
Am I to understand that the consensus is that anytime I use large amounts of stairs I'm going to get mystery lights? I'd prefer that SoManyPosts be right and I have a ghost.
If this is 'normal' as has been stated, then every pyramid anyone has ever built with stairs has funky mystery lights. I can't be the only one that wanted to find a way to fix it.

I finished the pyramid today and it's really disappointing to have it all blotchy on the outside after placing nearly 30,000 stairs in survival.
