I recently just updated my my Mac to OSX Yosemite and what has happened is when i click to play Minecraft it tells me i need Java SE 6 runtime to play. I have downloaded Java 8 thinking it would work but it doesn't, it still tells me i need SE 6. I cannot find the download for SE 6 for a mac. So i was wondering if anyone else is having a similar issue or knows how to help me.

To run Minecraft with Java 8, you have to edit the profile you're using, erase the executable part and type in

/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java

and then save. Also, make sure you downloaded the Java 8 JDK. Also, if you root around the Apple website, you'll eventually find a download for Java 6 SE, but I recommend the other solution since it helps your Minecraft run faster. I hope this helped you

never got that far on a mac. should be the same as other versions

Hey thanks for all the help guys. I got it figured out. I had to dig a little deeper to find the correct version of Java.
