I have Windows 8.1 and have tried to download Minecraft. Everything seems fine as it goes through its downloading procedure, but then it does not seem to be resident on my computer anywhere. I did a search for "minecraft app" and it still does not show up. All I want to do is get it set up so I can make a shortcut for my son so he can play. Any advice would be appreciated.
The minecraft.exe file that you downloaded is the "launcher" This program downloads the full application and any updates and is what you always use to launch minecraft. Minecraft doesn't "install' like many applications and create a Start Menu item or a desktop icon or anything like that. Just move the launcher program wherever you want it to be and use that to start it up every time.
Thanks for the info! So, the launcher is resident somewhere on my machine and I just need to move it (or shortcut it) so that my son can boot Minecraft? Do you know what the launcher is called (i.e., how do I find it?). Thanks again - I appreciate your time!
... It's called Minecraft.exe and it's what you downloaded (or should have downloaded) from https://www.minecraft.net/download If you never ran anything minecraft related on your system, then it's probably sitting in your download folder (which one depends upon which browser you were using).
