I can play 1.7.10 and below but not 1.8 and above- PLEASE HELP

I recently tried playing 1.8 after a long time of playing 1.7.10 but it crashes whenever I try to launch the game. It says exit code 1.

Try to re-install minecraft.

If it doesnt work, please post crash report, we cannot help without a crash report..

I had deleted the contents of my .minecraft folder and ran it again. Does that count?
