My minecraft was working just fine a few days ago. I come back to the new update, and when it attempts to download the new update, it gets stuck. I keep getting an error on each download attempt in the launcher log
this happens on every attempt to download anything. I have tried reinstalling java, and clearing .minecraft folder to allow a clean download. It just doesn't seem to be connecting to the servers. Any ideas on what I could do to fix this? Thank you!

You can set up to use Google's public DNS here
https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/
First make sure it isn't a firewall or anything else, because if so this won't help you.
