So whats going on is me and a friend have a modded survival server going and weve been able to play just fine before. Now that i have updated the mods however he is unable to join but i can join just fine! He joins the server and when he joines he gets a "dirt" screen whitch is just the background and it stays like that for a while then stops responding. In game it says he connected but about a minute later it says he disconnected. I had him send me the output(log) of his minecraft after he joined the server. It starts the dirt screen when this error shows in the "output" thing. Here is the error:
Exception in thread "Client read thread" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space
Tell him to add -XX:MaxPermSize=256m to his JVM arguments or if it's already there and set to 128 to change 128 to 256 (when he hits edit profile on the launcher).
Yes, he's running out of memory, and needs to assign more memory to the game as zohar mentions. There also might be the possibility that his system doesn't have enough total memory to run the current mods. The only fix for that is to add more memory to the system, then assign more to the game. If you're using a third party launcher like Technic or AT Launcher, then there is a setting in the launcher to add more memory to the game. I can't check the FTB launcher right now, but I would imagine it has a similar option as well.
