I am running minecraft 1.8 on a pc with an intel i7 3770k and gtx 770, so I shouldn't get lag. I have 4 gb of ram allocated to the game but yet randomly in the f3 menu my memory shows as used completley and I get a severe lag spike. I am talking like from 400fps to 20. any way to solve this? Any help is appreciated!

4 RAM is too much, actually, it can make it slower. You really only need 512mb-1 GB. Your graphics card also seems above average, so it's probably the RAM.
