Bear with me as I'm kind of new to this... I don't even know if I'm posting this to the right place, but anyways...
I just got the PC version of Minecraft yesterday (pretty awesome). BUT I've spent a lot of time trying to fix lag/framerate issues since then on version 1.8.1. My computer is 8GB of RAM, Windows 7 64 bit, AMD Radeon HD 6670 2GB. I can run soo many other games with no problem but no matter what settings I changed in Minecraft, I kept getting mild to moderate lag and screen tearing when I moved my character around in the world. I did everything like updated drivers, java, etc. As a last effort, I loaded up 1.7.10 to see if it was the version of MC I was running. Sure enough, It runs just fine in 1.7.10. No problems at all. So is this an optimization issue with 1.8.1 and AMD graphics or something?
If you're having the same issue, try running an older version to see if that fixes anything for you. But I would appreciate any insight on this from anyone who may know another fix to this issue. It's going to be a real bummer if all new updates for Minecraft run that poorly on my computer.
Thanks for the reply. I messed around with the settings a bit and I was able to minimize the stuttering. It still stutters from time to time, but it's not as intrusive. Overall, I'm pretty surprised how demanding Minecraft is on PC. I figured I'd be running this game on high settings flawlessly....nope lol
EDIT: Anyone viewing this, if you're running into this kind of problem on 1.8.1, just mess with every single video setting. Maybe 1.7.10 had less system demanding content... or maybe it was better optimized, not sure
The thing about MC is it's really a dynamic 3D modelling program. Like a CAD program. It has to check every block in 3D space and render it appropriately from scratch. This is not a game like Skyrim where you have a 'skin' over a 3D model that is fixed at the time the game is released, and you can include several optimized views of an area from different directions and tweak that at run time. It's actually very intensive.
