I have custom modpack installed and after I left it running whole night (SSP), I got a call from my ISP provider that I have generated over 3GB of upload traffic.
Is there a way to somehow block Minecraft from accessing the Internet? I'm not sure what the procedure is with Java applications.
If I could still login to have my skin, that would be even better.
Uh. what ISP do you even have (generic way to fail). If they call and complain over 3GB of data on UPLOAD of all things, that is one worthless ISP (unless mobile carrier).
Just turn off your modem or network adapter on your PC when not actively at it? Also if you are hosting an server or playing on an server, that is where traffic is. But never should it use such bandwidth on upload if connecting to an server. Hosting however yes that maybe is valid.
There is a fair bit of missing information here. The game won't use such upload traffic on it's own. Unless you have some kind of malware which is also highly valid scenario.
They didn't complain, they noticed my connection was snapping every 10 min because of it and they called me to warn me (I had some connectivity issues last week so I guess the kept an eye out). I actually really love those guys, best ISP in the whole wide world!
I'm playing survival singleplayer (SSP), so there should be absolutley not reason for my client to communicate over the Internet. I did have snooper on (I turned it off now), but I don't think that should generate that much traffic. I can't turn off my network adapter since I'm not the sole Internet user on the network.
I've been playing last few days without problem, it started happening yesterday. Only two things that have changed is that I added three NEI addons (I doubt that's the reason) and that I installed Java 8u25(x64).
I might call try running the client on Java 7(x64) and then see with my ISP if the problem persists.
However, I'd still like to know how to block the client from accessing the Internet, I'm curious now.
I see. I would do an full malware scan with Malware-Bytes Ant-Malware. There is absolute no harm in such and such should be done monthly anyway at most.
Use Windows inbuilt Resource Monitor to see what is using high upload. Quick Acess: CTRL + SHIFT + ESC then go to Performance tab and then bottom middle is Resource Monitor button then go to Network tab and keep check on Send column. Given Minecraft, it will be the Javaw.exe process.
An you say you are not the only user on this network. So what is to say someone else is not the problem? Thought that I listed above will clarify such.
I am running Direwolf20 1.7.10 pack at time, no network activity from the Javaw.exe process. I have java 8 u25 as well to say (32 bit, 64 bit, JDK 64 bit).
