I had been trying to unmod my minecraft and i deleted the files and tried to update. When i start my minecraft i get this!

Pls help i cant figure it out, my firewall is fine and my internet it fine as well.

Try updating to java 8.

there is a java 8? i thought it was just 7 going on...

i didnt think there was a java 8 out only 7....

well i updated my java and still got the same error so im not sure...

It seems like its trying to download something and failing, try re-installing minecraft maybe?

We are encountering the same error, today - after not playing Minecraft for the last few weeks. Tried downloading a new Minecraft; same problem. Checked Java; it is up to date.

i also reinstalled it did nothing gave me the same error....

Resetting winsock didn't help. We have (I am a little ashamed to admit) McAfee antivirus... I am looking at its settings now...

And it's definitely the McAfee firewall. I turned off the firewall and it connected - but I obviously can't live like that. So it's a McAfee configuration problem (sigh)...

Check if your firewall or antivirus didn't block Minecraft or Java.

i dont have McAfee i have ESET...

ive disabled everything on my antivirus and still have the error...

Sounds like we have different problems. McAfee allows me to configure it to allow specific ports outbound. What ports do I need to enable for Java and Minecraft?
