Hello,

When I upgraded to the Minecraft1.8.exe server, my minecraft server will consistantly crash after a few minutes of operation. I see HS_ERR_PID files in my minecraft root directory which are detailing the following error:

I have updated my video card, Java 64bit, and redownloaded mincecraft 1.8.exe however the issue remains.

My machine is an alienware 17 Intel I7-4800MQ Core [email protected] 2.7gh / 16 GB RAM / Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium Service Pack 1:

Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M: Driver Version: 9.18.13.4411: Driver Date 9/13/2014

Java Version: Standard 7 64 bit Update 60 (build 1.7.0_60-b19

I run the server using a batch file: ava -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -jar minecraft_server.1.8.exe -o true.

Any help is appreciated.

I have already tried saving / backing up the server and restarting to include re-downloading the 1.8 exe.

Any other ideas? Since it is crashing it appears to be a bug.... unless someone knows of a configuration change required to resolve this issue or driver update?

This is not a bug. Unless you've managed to find one in the Java JVM (unlikely).

This means that the crash is happening in the java Garbage Collection code. This usually means that you are experience a hardware failure of some sort, generally it's bad memory (could be transient due to over heating or over clocking). You should run memory diagnostics. The alienware probably has diagnostics built into the boot roms accessible via a function key during startup.

I appreciate the response. I ran the hardware diag tool in the bios, the alienware diag tool and the dell system check. All hardware passed the checks. the hardware is fine. I am also a certified microsoft MCSE. I am confident the hardware is good. This issue only occurs with yhe minecraft server 1.8. Previous versions do not crash nor any other apps on this machine.

There is a newer version of Java 7 (Java 1.7.0_72), I don't however seen anything in the release notes from 60 through 72 that jump out at me. This crash happens because the JVM runs intro trouble while garbage collecting the heap. Either Oracle's Java code has a bug, or the JVM binary is damaged, or the heap is corrupted (not supposed to be possible with Java from software bugs). I suppose there's a chance that if some Java heap memory is accessed from native code via JNI type access that that could corrupt the heap. The number one suspect in that case would be the video driver code.
