I can't connect to any minecraft servers, and I've tried everything I can think of to get on.
I'm not an expert but I'll spell out the steps I took to resolve the issue.
Working on a Macbook Pro running OS X Yosemite (Although my second Macbook running OS X Mountain Lion doesn't work either).
Recently moved and have a new router and modem. Netgear WNR2500 router...cable modem provided by Time Warner.
Tried connecting to a server...get an error ( io.netty.channel.ConnectTimeoutException: connection timed out: )
Can't connect to my friends server or any other servers for that matter.
Reinstalled Minecraft...nothing.
Tried opening on my other Macbook (Running OS X Mountain Lion) same issue.
Attempted connecting to his server via my browser...connected fine.
Pinged his server via Network Utility...pings went through fine.
Solid internet speed...faster than what I used to use.
Checked my ports on my router to see if adding a port forward thing would fix it...added 25565, nothing happened. (Possible i wasn't exactly right?)
Reset my router and modem.
Cried in a corner.
I feel like I checked everything and in theory it should be working. The only thing I can think is that there is something screwy with my router?
Anyone have any steps I could take to get the issue resolved? Rituals or sacrifices I could make to get this thing up and running again?

I WANT TO MINE! HELP!
No firewalls on either computers.
Still seems to not want to connect to any servers whatsoever.
Other ideas?
For whatever reason that particular router didn't like any minecraft servers...every other website or server was fine.
Purchased a new router and it was fine. Bad router was a Netgear WNR2500
