Hello there, Minecraftians. I am trying to download a pre-1.8 version of Minecraft for the PC so my son can utilize Kovacic's modpack. Problem is, I cannot find where to go to obtain an earlier version. I have found a site with .jar files, but cannot locate the resources on my PC to open this type of file.
Is there a URL or site where one can obtain 1.7-vintage versions of Minecraft? If so could you please send this information along to me. Second concern would be will said files come in some sort of standard executable whereby a double-click will do the trick? If not and we are bogged down in a .jar file, are there standard resources within Windows 7 to open/unpack .jar files?
Most appreciative for any and all help. Take care.
To do this go to "New Profile" in the launcher. Then go to the "Use Version" drop-down menu and select the version of Minecraft you'd like to use! However for a mod pack, when you download it all the files come in a .zip file. Extract the zip file to where you want to run the file from. Then, just double click the .exe file! If you need more help follow the pictures I have attached to this post.
Thank you very much for your detailed response. In terms of the executable, which I presume is the file, Kovacic's Mod Pack, do I bring this to the .minecraft directory and run it from there?
I will try this now and see what happens. Hopefully nothing untoward.

Okay. I just installed the modpack within the directory .minecraft both from within its own directory (Kovacic's Mod Pack which I added to the .minecraft directory) and directly from the .minecraft directory with the executable at the root level.
I guess we have two options here. Either I am installing incorrectly or I have installed it correctly and there is another step to see the mod "items".
Any further guidance you can provide here would be greatly appreciated. Take care.
You can install it to where ever you'd like. When you run the .exe file it starts the program and you can select which mods you'd like to have. After that start up Minecraft with the "Kovacic's Mod Pack" profile. See images attached to this post
Okay, I am getting a better sense of what is necessary here. However, I am not seeing Minecraft KMP-v2.1.1 in the "Use Version" dropdown within the profile editor. ( See the attached image).
This is what I think you are talking about. Available there are all the versions of Minecraft one could shake a stick at, but not the KMP modpack. Is there another setting or step that is required to make this visible within the "Use Version" dropdown or am I thinking about this all wrong.
Thank you very much for your help and patience with me. I am trying to help out a six year old boy who is dying to get his hands on this modpack. Please respond back at your earliest convenience.
Take care.
Dave
