I just yesterday downloaded the linux jar file, but when trying to run it, after hitting "play" in the launcher, the console just spews out hundreds of these:
Those URLs are perfectly valid and should work in a browser. The fact that they fail in a browser is evidence that you have a problem either with your system or your network.

Couldn't download https://libraries.minecraft.net/net/java/jinput/jinput/2.0.5/jinput-2.0.5.jar for job 'Version & Libraries'

Couldn't download https://libraries.minecraft.net/org/lwjgl/lwjgl/lwjgl/2.9.1/lwjgl-2.9.1.jar for job 'Version & Libraries'
java.net.SocketTimeoutException: connect timed out
and so on and so forth....
if I copy these URL's to a browser, I also can't download them. I've tried my ISP's and google's DNS servers. I don't have a firewall/proxy.
Any ideas?
